Sometimes we are amazed at the kind of struggle people have to go through in order to get the information they need about their beloved motorcar. Take for instance this mail we recently received:
“Hello, I Gianni Morandi from Italy and the write asking aid: I purchased these days a SCAT 25/30hp of 1918/20 that I found in Australia, this is a particular model as can see from the photos especially the radiator that is to V. I would ask if you have news of this detailed + Model because unable to find documentation by anyone. I am turning to the right and left but to think that the SCAT not find anything. The machine I began to study it in order to understand better how I should proceed, whether or leave it restore. I should be grateful if you could show me something or someone help me. The thank, Morandi Gianni.”
Of course we will be glad to help. The Societa Ceirano Automobili Torino has its own website: check SCAT-Automobiles.com designed by PreWarCar. But if anyone has any special knowledge about this particular model, please inform us (RB). We will gladly pass the information on to Gianni. However, whether to restore this semi finished SCAT or leave it in its beautiful patinated state is a decision we cannot make. (photos Gianni Morandi)
Update II by Frazer Sloan: “The SCAT question can be answered by the person who bought the same type of SCAT from Paul Foulkes-Halbard of Filching Manner. He had a 1921 'Lizard Skin' bodied tourer which he imported from Argentina. It was sold by the estate at auction about 10 years ago. It was, up to now, the one and only post WW1 SCAT that I had seen.”
Update I by Nick Bell: “I was very surprised to see the photo of a 1921 SCAT with what looks like a late Sizaire-Berwick radiator with SCAT script and enamel badge on. As far as I know there is no evidence that SCAT made a V-shaped radiator. There are several reports of Sizaire-Berwicks having been exported to Australia, so it is not impossible that the radiator was fitted to Gianni's car at a later date. The rest of the chassis looks like SCAT.”
