Stored since the sixties in a Swedish ‘barn’, a 1927 Amilcar CGSS was offered for sale on PreWarCar and now under restoration. Desmond Peacock from the UK Amilcar Register identified her being a CGSS with a standard Duval steelbody. See pictures of the full project. The car came with papers suggesting she was (almost) all her life in Sweden. The current Dutch owner is trying to piece together her history and seeks support from the PreWarCar audience. Together with the car came an interesting story of its CGSS engine (no: 41481) having had marine-experience while serving as a ship’s-engine! ‘Evidence’ is found in a modified shortened shaft to suit the propellor?, reversed waterhose connection on the cilinderhead and above all the altered pedalbox. Brake pedal being removed, one could operate the clutch pedal either by hand or by foot depending the position one was in: sitting or standing. It is not sure when this occurred. In the fifties or before/during wartime? An Amilcar CGSS must have been a rare appearance in those days. Not many of them around. Does anyone in Sweden has memories about this Amilcar or its CGSS engine in a marine environment? Shipyard involved? Did any CGSS picture in Sweden survive? Your possible reactions are really being appreciated by Henk Fortgens.
