Last week Peter van Inderdael bought two oiginal pictures of a Minerva. He writes: "When I was looking at the picture I saw that there was a plate of the German Coachbuilder Papler (Köln). At the front of the car on the bar between the lights there is a sign with an eagle. Could you or someone help me to find more information on Papler and the eagle? Epecially the time when the picture was taken is very interesting for me." Can you help Peter van Inderdael?
Update by Heinzgerd Schott:"The eagle-badge is the sign of the wellknown German automobil-club ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil Club), still one of the biggest car clubs in the world.
Papler of Colongne was founded 1868, did 1908 their first body for a car. Most of those in the next years were single because Papler was a small family-company. In the 20/30th Papler produced very small series for ADLER and Ford (Cologne). From 1936 and in WWII Papler produced truck bodies too. After WWII Papler existed until 1955. In 1955 the FAUN-WORKS (a German Truck producing company) bought Papler. In the early fifties Papler mainly was working for Ford (Cologne). They did for example a very nice little cabriolet on the Ford Taunus.
The Minerva-Papler could be dated 1928. On Page 519 of Werner Oswald Deutsche Autos 1920 - 1945 there is a foto of a big 1928 Mercedes Typ 630 with a very similar Pullman-Limousine of Papler."
They apparently did several bodies on Minerva chassis.
