Motorbike fishtails exhaust identification.

Hello,

My name is Daniel Hadad and and I'm a young fan of classic vehicles that together with my father we have a small collection of old cars and motorcycles in Tangier (North Morocco).

Recently another collector from my city has passed away and we have bought practically all his collection. Among their vehicles was a BMW R5 from 1937 that was sent new to Tangier and has never left the city. Surely it is one of the oldest BMW motorcycles in the country.

I write you because in his collection I have found two motorbike fishtails exhaust that I can not identify to what motorcycle do they belong. Surely belong to a British motorcycle of the mid-30s but I can not figure out which brand. They are made of solid aluminum and are polished. Most of British motorcycles of this period have steel chrome plate fishtails exhaust and only the Brough Superiors have this type of fishtails.

I would like that you post on the website the three pictures that I send so that readers can help me to identify of wich motorcycle were mounted. The measures are: Long: 18 cms., Width: 16 cms., Inside diameter: 4 cms. and External diameter: 5 cms.

Thanks in advance for the help that you can give me in this task. You have a really interesting website and as an aficionado you can imagine the interest that I have in identifying these discovered parts.

Regards from Tangier!

Apparently the fishtails exhaust were not from a Neander 500 but from a racer Monet & Goyon 175 Brooklands type.
I sold them to a French enthusiast long ago but recently I have found in an old Moroccan publication the sales advertisement of this same motorcycle in Casablanca. The ad was from 1929 and who knows if it was from the same motorcycle as the parts that I had. I was skeptical that this type of motorcycle was imported to Morocco but I was wrong!

The mystery is solved!

Thanks to Bernd I have been able to confirm that the two motorbike fishtails exhaust belonged to a NEANDER 500.
I was very skeptical about this conclusion beacuse the British look of the parts but they belonged to a German bike.

These fishtails come from an old motorcycle workshop in Tangier where my deceased collector friend bought them with more spare parts from others scraped bikes. The Neander circulated through the streets of my city where there were more exotic motorcycles since Tangier was a free port. Recently I have had the opportunity to buy the rest of the parts that remained in this workshop before it close definitely. Among them I found the remains of a BSA B32 from 1947 which was the competition trial version of the B31 in addition to a complete B31 Plunger from 1953.

Kind regards.

Daniel.

Hallo Bernd!

I have seen some pictures of the NEANDER 500 and the exhaust fishtails do not loock exactly the same.
I originally thought that they came from a Brough Superior but the smoke output is not the same. In Tangier there were many British motorcycles and I still think that they belong to one of these bikes.

However if you are interested I could sell them although it was not my purpose to publish them here. I would like to receive more opinions about the origin of these parts.

Bernd if you want you can make me an offer for the two fishtails. For my email, send a message to [email protected]

Hallo,
wahrscheinlich sind die Fischtails von einer 500er NEANDER.
Ich besitze solch ein Motorrad und hätte Interesse an den
beiden Fischtails.
Würden Sie die beiden Endstücke verkaufen?
Über eine Nachricht würde ich mich freuen.
Kind regards
Bernd
