The Peles Castle Mystery (upd. 1910 Laurin & Klement)

George Nica bought this photo in Galati city (Romania). In the background one can see the famous Peles Castle located in Sinaia, built by King Carol around 1880 as a summer residence for the royal family. The imposing car seems located very close to the castle, so it is George's theory that the people in the photo may be friends or relatives of the royal family, or even members of the royal family itself. If so, it is known that the royal family had among other cars various NAGs TULIP, so maybe the car is one of those. Whoever these people may be, they have very nice clothes, and as George Nica writes " I envy the driver for driving such a fine car. Can you please help me indentify the car ?"

Fascinating to read such detail about a mystery car! As a result I re-examined my copy of this excellent book, which I bought several years ago as a result of my interest in early motorcycles. It is a formidable publication which deserves wider recognition, as it chronicles in amazing detail the fortunes of a prolific and innovative early vehicle manufacturer. It is hard to imagine how such an illustrious company as L&K came to deserve the position in popular culture that Skoda had. One presumes from the infornmation provided by Jiri SAchwarz that the factory records survive. They would make interesting reading.

Hello , first i want to thank to the PWC comunity for helping me out , expecially to Mr. Jiří Schwarz who pointed out corectly the car in my opinion .
I checked on site http://auta5p.eu/katalog/laurin_klement/lk_gdv_01.htm other details of GDVC4 , and you can see there the bottom image a similar car. The number of wheel spokes match both front and rear ; the lateral hood ventilation grille matches and also the general shape of the car matches.
What i am curious about is the exact dating of the car including engine serial number , i suppose Mr. Jiří Schwarz has acces to some data-base or has photos of this particular car ? Or maybe this car with its history still exist in some private collection ?
Another question of mine to Mr. Jiří Schwarz is about the engine: the above mentioned site quotes the 1895-1995 Skoda history book , and according to them the car had a inline 8 cylinder block having 2660ccm, with a 84/120mm bore and stroke . If one does the math here obtains a 5320ccm, so double of 2660ccm . Was it a 8 or a 4 cylinder ?
Thank you again , George Nica

Eastern Europe for me is still full of mysteries! Both regarding the NAG and the Laurin & Klement option however I have serious doubts. The NAG as well as the L&K type GDV images in my archive look quite different. So it would be helpful if these statements could be confirmed with an image of a similar car.

Background looks like a scenic flat, blue screen circa 1910.
