Napiers in British Columbia
Letter to the editor
I have been researching Napiers in British Columbia for quite a while now and have found some very interesting photos of them. We have very good archives in the province and this is where I have found most. They are usually taken in Vancouver and quite often show other cars from this great era. I would like to share ten examples with those who also appreciate these fine automobiles.

The second photo shows a good part of western Canadian history when people were arriving here to start a new life. Kelowna was the hub city of the Okanagan Valley which is about one hundred miles long and very hot in the summer. An irrigation company which owned vast tracks of land put the water system in then in 1912 put the property up for sale as multi acre lots. The result was some of the best fruit growing land in the world . This was advertised across the country and in the UK. Here you see a large group of people which have just arrived being taken out to see their new property. There was no method to transport the people so the city asked automobile owners to volunteer their time and assemble to provide the service. What a nice way to welcome these new people and the automobile played an important part.

Lovely photos, I used to own the ex Brian Goodman 30/ 35 Napier with its Cunard body, I believe it’s now in the states. Hope it comes back to the UK someday.

Nice to see these Canadian Napiers from Steve.
I am pleased to say at least one survives, pictured front left in the second photo of a street parade in Kelowna. It was then owned by a Dr Boyce, dismantled on a farm in the ‘30’s but put back together in the ‘70’s, returning shortly after that to the U.K. It is a 6-cylinder 30hp from 1912 pictured below on a recent tour in Scotland.
