A Philos Tourer history query

Jason O'Shaughnessy wrote: "I have recently placed an advert on your website looking for information on my car, a PHILOS tourer. I managed to get some photos of the car which I received from a very kind gentleman called Bart Leen. As you can see the photos show the car at different stages, one photo appears from the 1950's. The remaining photos are, I think, from the 1970's or early 1980's when the car appears to be part of a large collection. I know the car was sold by auction in the UK in the early 1990's. I am trying to trace the early history of the car and wondered if there was any possibility that you would do a feature on the car, someone may recognise the collection and may put me in contact with the previous owners. I would be grateful for you help, your website may help make the breakthrough on solving this mystery."   Motor  Unrestored condition

One of the members of Conam, the Dutch society of Historical Vehicles, has researched the history of the Philos. What he found was this:

In March 1977 a Philos chassis was offered in an advert in a Dutch daily newspaper, De Telegraaf. The ad was placed by the family Van Nimwegen of the car museum in Orvelte. In it the Philos was dated 1914. In a second ad in October 1977 it was dated 1913. In 1978 when the Van Nimwegen collection was moved to the car museum in Assen, the Philos was advertised again, now with a more complete description: Philos 1913 complete with chassis and engine, gearbox, steering. etc, etc., bonnet and 2 Bleriot carbit headlights.

In February and May 1987 it was again advertised in De Telegraaf. This time by Auto Vitesse in Eindhoven. The description was Philos Ballet (sic), 1912, 4-cyl. Restored. In October, the text of the ad was: Philos, 1911, 4-cyl. Ballot, needs refurbishing, with or without coachwork.

On June 16, 1994 there was an auction of 80 historic automobiles in the Anton Pieck Hall of Autotron Rosmalen. The auction was organized by Glerum Auctioneers. One of those 80 cars was a Philos 1914.

Assuming that we are talking about the same Philos it could be that:
- the Philos was brought to the Netherlands by G. Riemer of the car museum in Driebergen;
- the car was moved in 1969 to Leidschendam when the Riemer collection was merged with that of P. W. Louwman;
- the family Van Nimwegen bought the Philos from Louwman, possibly at the auction of "surplus" vehicles on April 3, 1971;
- Van Nimwegen then sold the Philos to Auto Vitesse;
- they entered it in the 1994 auction after which the Philos was sold to England.

I hope this helps in further research

Looks like about a 1913 or 1914 Philos which used the Ballot engine and was manufactured in France.
