The Pines to Palms Mystery (Upd. '33 Ford Fordor)

Steve Lech writes: “The Pines to Palms Highway is located in the San Jacinto Mountains in Riverside County, California. It's designated as part of (but not the entire) State Highway 74. The name implies the route - in a 35 mile span, you can go from an Alpine forest environment with pine and cedar trees, through 5 different life zones, and end in the Colorado Desert of Palm Desert. This highway has fascinated me for some time, and I love driving it. I'm researching the story of this road, it dates to June, 1932, and would love to know what car that is (click!). It was probably owned by the famed Southern California photographer Burton Frasher, since I've seen it in other pics of his. Any help would be greatly appreciated.”

Hi all - thanks for identifying the car. Let me also clarify - the Pines-to-Palms Highway dates to 1932. This picture is probably 1936 or 37. Thanks again !!

I agree with mr. Marenzi that the car is a Ford, specifically a 1933 model with a single hood handle on each side. 1934 models had 2. Also visible is a cowllight which Buicks of that period did not show.

I would agree with Robbie, bumpers wings and door handles do appear to be Ford.Is 1932 the correct date for the photograph though? Graham.

I think it's 1933/34 Ford Fordor with trunk and rear spare tyre. The rear window has the correct shape, same as bumper and it has suicide doors at front, which Buick's did not have.
