In the city where we used to live many moons ago there used to be the Friday Night Skate. This was a weekly event held only when the weather was fine. If so, people from all over town got their skates on to get together in the park and have some fun.
Today’s Friday Lady could have been preparing for just that if the picture hadn’t been taken decades before this whole Friday Night Skate thing came about. We do have more information for a change. The picture dates back to 1933 and the lady in question is named Helene Acker, who was acting as a model in what the original caption called a ‘Roller Skating Fashion Show’.
Giving more details, it continued: "A novel feature of the tea dance to be given at the Central Park Casino, New York, May 13th for the benefit of the Stony Wold Sanatorium will be a fashion show on roller skates in which sub-debutantes on skates will act as models. Above, as they attended a dress rehearsal May 12th in Central Park, W.R. Bascome junior adjusts the skates of Miss Helene Acker who will take part in the fashion show."
As always, the thing we’d love to know is: what’s the car?
