This week’s PreWarCar of the Week is a 1914 Clement-Bayard - a true movie star!
We heard the rumours that this Clement-Bayard, also known as G-5391, was used as a getaway car in the 1978 production of `The Thirty-Nine Steps`. We had to see this with our own eyes! So we decided to watch the British thriller ourselves. Fully focused on all the escape scenes we finally found the car! What a hero!
If you also want to see the car in action, you can watch the movie based on a 1915 novel HERE. At 54:50 minutes you see G539 – the Green 1914 Clement-Bayard. You can also have a look at the attached screenshots from the film. We highly recommend you to watch it as there are several PreWarCars in it.
We have strayed a bit… Back to the car. The Edwardian Clement-Bayard surfaced in the south of Scotland from long term ownership. It is a fine and early example. Clement-Bayard motors were a French-based producer formed in 1878 producing racing bicycles and motorised tricycles. Clement was famous for introducing the first pneumatic tyre to France and his clip-on engine was acquired by the British motorcycle manufacturer ‘Norton’ to produce their first ever motorcycle.
On the 12th of May 2019, this beautiful 1914 Clement-Bayard will be auctioned by Tennants Auctioneers. The car is estimated between £17,000 and £20,000.
