Found languishing in Scotland and rescued by Martyn Cragg: a 1925 Panhard et Levassor 20cv Sport type X49. The X49 was made from 1924 to 1928 and has a 4845cc, 4-cylinder sleeve valve engine type SK4F2. This chassis with number 54049 was sold new in France. Out of 242 cars produced, 75 were for export and of those only twelve were delivered in the UK. So this is quite a rare find. Martyn would like to know from anyone out there who has information on the history of this car. [email protected]
UPdate IV by Paul Linster: "...an impressive (racing) Panhard & Levassor is now exhibited in our "Conservatoire National de Véhicules Historiques" in Diekirch, Luxembourg. (Panhard- Levassor X49 "RECORD" first on the track in 1922
5.800 ccm 6 cylinder 90 cv 2 different gear boxes (dependant on track) currently road registered in France."
UPDATE III by Bruno Estibals:"Member of the club "Les Doyennes
de Panhard et Levassor", dedicated to PreWar Panhard, I recommend to
Martin to contact the club and specially the archivist and President
Arnaud Blanc through: Les Doyennes de Panhard & Levassor
UPDATE II by Ruud de Pater who's father is working on a X46 which was found in similar condition and now is prepared for a spectacular come-back.
UPDATE I by Christoph Grohe:"The 20CV sport are THE forgotten prewar french cars ! The Panhard-Levassor 20 CV Sport was Panhard's greatest pre-war realisation. I sold early this year my 20CV Sport and have to say it was one of my favorite cars. Those cars achieved many race successes, concours d'élégance wins and records, and where built only to 76 numbers form 1927 until 1929. The 5350 ccm engine was Panhard's largest sleeve engine. They can be compared with Bugatti type 46 and Hispano type H6B."
