RAF Mystery Truck?

We have a little desk research for those who are interested in RAF history. Just recently this joyful picture came in with a saloon? truck? or whatever? overgrown with happy RAF personnel. Too little cues for us to go on, so it's up to our British visitors and other RAF experts to decide which vehicle these chaps are hiding for us. Now if we are quick enough we may be just in time to present the results at tomorrow's meeting of the RAF Historical Society.

Does anyone mind if I blow up a copy of this photograph for a custom T-shirt?

Most likely taken in 1939 - 1940 during the Phoney War. The man standing on the right side running board (without cap) is definitely Edgar James 'Cobber' KAIN -RAF Ace. The flight officer on the bumper is wearing 1936 pattern flying boots. Being that they are in France I would say the vehicle is a Hotchkiss or similar French make.

Hmmm... maybe it is a Hotchkiss as I could not get enough of the Studebaker features to line up. Marchal lights? Front fenders and bumper are very Studebaker like. I guess maybe a bumper for a Hotchkiss was a dealer fitted option?

If it was a Chrysler it would be no later than 1928 - by the curved top of the radiator. Unfortunately the fenders and bumper are wrong for Chrysler. I am leaning towards Studebaker from late 1927 to early or mid 1928 - by the fenders, the front bumper and the tiny 'wing' on top of the headlamp. It could be either a Model GB Big Six Commander or a Model ES Big Six President. The style of the visor suggests it is made from a convertible. Studebaker were notorious for changing the appearance of their cars several times a year so it is very hard to date them exactly.
