Recommissioning a vintage er... Punto.

Over the next period we will give you a few write ups on the new editorial means of transport: a 1929 Fiat 514 two door saloon. This compact family car - in marketing postioning comparable to a 'Punto' - has spent decades in the now closed Lips Autotron. After that it spent a lingering life with very little use in different hands on different locations. When we bought the car the 'overhauled' engine did run, but with horrible nasty clunks from deep down under. The problem was smaller than it sounded. An earlier amateur distribution treatment caused lots of play causing the heavy metal sound. This was professionally cured by Harry van Coeverden, helped by the parts catalogue provided by Jaroslav Exner. So now we now toddle around within a 5 mile range from the offices and found vague problems with the front brakes. Friend and engineer Jan Stellingwerff located a poor right front wheel bearing causing the issue. Of course nowhere available, until we landed at the counter of Brammer who has this size tappet bearing in stock...! We'll be back to you soon. In the meantime we hope you can help us locating a petrol gauge. Contact Us
