(by Bas de Voogd, 25-7-2002) 'As I have a weak spot for sad saloons this MG VA was quickly bought, when I found it in 1980 in Heeze, Holland. I had to take it partly of the attick and it was really in bad shape. Intriguing was that the MG had a 1956 Dutch registration and it was rumoured that it had spent all of it’s life in Holland. As I had too many projects on hand, I never came around rebuilding the beast. About 10 years later a MG VA engine was advertised nearby. To my amazement the owner said his uncle had a VA during the fifties. It turned out his uncle’s name was on my VA’s registration! After that it became possible to get in touch with practically all owners this MG ever had. Most thrilling thing was that this VA was imported into Holland in June 1945 by Jan Moll, the co-pilot on the “Uiver” (site by Paul van Weezepoel), the plane that won the 1934 London Melbourne race on handicap. The aeroplane mascotte that was proudly fitted on this MG’s radiator is still owned by the Crop family who had this car from 1950 untill 1959. After Crop this VA was owned by Mr. van der Does, next to the VA we see his charming wife Sabine.' (photos collection Bas de Voogd) More on prewar MG's at MGcars.org and MG Octagon car Club.
