The first car to drive in the Netherlands, MEMORIALRIT 27-8-2023, Plaque, euregional o.a. car history

 

A) Following the many positive comments about the article placed in various media and Conam posted article on the historic event that took place in April 1893 "the first Car that drove in the Netherlands"the undersigned, together with the historian Drs Martin Bergevoet did a follow-up study. We found more newspaper articles found and a recorded witness statement. There is also much more information about  both the car, the drive and the owner retrieved. This has appeared in more extensive and scholarly  versions published in the Heimatbuch Kreis Viersen NRW Germany and the Yearbook Buun. It was a  Benz Patentwagen no.3 by Richard Freudenberg 

To give wider publicity to this unique event, its  importance and mobile heritage, we want to organise a Memorial ride and unveil a plaque. 

 

To make this historically significant historical event "the first Car drove in 1893 in Venlo, Netherlands " even more experience we want to give "Good Industrial Heritage " and one of the oldest Oldtimer associations of NRW Germany MotorClub Süchteln e.V. supported by the ADAC on Sunday 27 August 2023 a Memorial/anniversary ride 130 years first Auto in the Netherlands over the historic route will be organised.

 

The historic and particularly beautiful rural route of 16 km will start from Süchteln through a

beautiful rural area and through a border crossing to Venlo. Next, the Leutherweg,

Keulse Poort past the oldest existing petrol station building in the Netherlands over the

Parade to the City Hall. Then across Maaskade past the historic crane and visiting

the very special Historical Museum of Océ

 

In the Océ Museum you will discover the rich history of the company Océ, which became part of Canon Production Printing in 2010, became part of Canon Production Printing in 2010. Discover how the  company grew from a supplier of butter-coloured dye to a world-leading company in of high-tech printing systems. See a recreated pharmacy, a laboratory, more than 100-year-old copying systems and wander past recent devices. But also discover the most recent history, such as a 2.5D printed version of famous painting by Rembrandt van Rijn 'The Jewish Bride'. The Océ Museum collects Océ's heritage and shows how the innovative quality of its latest products is founded on its rich history.

 

By highlighting the rolling historical events and thus the start of the rich history of cross-border

motorised passenger and goods transport and the related economic prosperity in the Netherlands and Germany, we want people to enjoy them. Participants: In total ~100 oldtimers, including a number of special Antique, Veterans oldtimers built from 1888 to ~1925. The rest will be pre-war and special post-war oldtimers (up to and including year of construction 1959 and some specials) , which will be driving a ~60km route ride and then the Memorial route. Timing: in Süchteln ~from 9am. In Venlo ~13.00 hrs.

 

With the installation of a beautiful plaque with the story of this important event on the oldest existing petrol station building in the Netherlands, we want to give this event a lasting modern reminder. In cooperation with the Limburgs Museum, Venlo partners and Emiel Zeevenhoven of Fantastico, this will be realised. This plaque will be unveiled on the day in the presence of, among others, those special antique and veteran oldtimers will be unveiled. Through a QR code, the story, which is also included

in the digital heritage route can be further retrieved.

 

The first fully reliable Dutch automobile came from Swalmen. The car was designed and produced in-house using its own Dutch parts. It was partly designed by Ferdinand Anderheggen and partly by Peter Konings . Produced it was with parts, made by its own craftsmen and assembled in its entirety in Swalmen at Konings. And the car was reliable according to the KNAC, among others.

There will be a book this year with information about this event, this event, participants, about the

first good car of the Netherlands ( Konings Swalmen) the company and photos of the participants will appear. Also at VDL Konings in Swalmen, a large number of the participating Oldtimers can be admired at their open day on the occasion of the 150 company's 150th anniversary.

 

 

We think and are looking for about ~25 special Antique, Veterans vintage cars built from 1888 to ~1925. There will already be a Benz Patentwagen 3 Wheeler. The rest pre war and special post war old timers (up to 1959). Those vehicles will drive additionally a route of ~60 km and then join the Memorial route. In total there is room for ~100 oldtimers. In order of registration, and full is full.

 

We ask for appropriate attention. So that together on Sunday, 27 August 2023, we can make it a very

beautiful event rolling heritage event. With a lasting memory.  And ps we have asked B&W Arnhem to remove their Plaque.
