The popularity of Tricycles is booming. Top 10 prices at auction
Tricycles are very popular at the moment. As you have read earlier in this magazine, big names like Ettore Bugatti started their career with a three-wheeled vehicle.
On the 15th of April 2018, the third edition of Barnards Trike day will take place. Organized by De Dion Bouton club and sponsored by PreWarCar.com. Previous years, it was a huge success and we are hoping for another fantastic day.
The last few auctions that we went to, we noticed the prices are quite high for vehicles that are no more than a few tubes and a small engine. At the Retromobile 2018 auction of Artcurial, new records were set but what we noticed is that the prices have been high for some years now. If you compare the 1901 Singer Motorwheel which was sold in 2009 at Brightwells for £32,500 and in 2007 an almost similar one was sold for £65,340.
Of course, there are a lot of different types of trikes. The Renaux is an amazing machine and the Prinetti e Stucchi has the name Ettore Bugatti on it and also the condition is different but we are curious to know if the prices will rise.
One thing is for sure, after an event like the Barnards trike day, we want one ourselves!
Top 10 prices for Tricycles at auction:
1. 1899 Renaux Tricycle was sold by Artcurial at Retromobile 2018 for €137.080.
2. 1901 Singer Motorwheel was sold in 2017 by Bonhams at their Veteran sale for €74.682.
3. 1899 De Dion Bouton 2 1/4hp was sold by RM Sothebys at their 2012 Hershey sale for €71.500.
4. 1899 Peugeot Tricycle was sold by Artcurial at Retromobile 2018 for €69.136.
5. 1900 Auto-Moto with a trailer was sold for by Artcurial at Retromobile 2018 for €57.216.
6. 1899 Marrot-Gardon Tricycle was sold by Artcurial at Retromobile 2018 for €47.680.
7. 1898 De Dion Bouton Tricycle was sold by Bonhams at the 2009 Ward brother collection sale for €45.719.
8. 1898 De Dion Bouton Tricycle was sold by Bonhams at their 2009 Paris sale for €37.950.
9. 1901 Singer Motorwheel was sold by Brightwells in 2009 for € 36.920.
10. 1898 Phebus 2 3/4 Motor Tricycle was sold by Bonhams for €33.518.

The 1901 Singer Motorwheel tricycle sold at Bonhams in 2017, is the same tricycle that was purchased by the owner at the Brightwells auction in 2009. Not a bad investment! I have an earlier example, possibly 1899, which for a number of years I have been rebuilding. If anybody needs any information on these Perks and Birch or Singer Motorwheel tricycles or bicycles I may be able to help, as I have been collecting parts and information on these for a number of years.

I would be very interested if any other Bimotore's in untouched original condition still exist.
