The Singer Motor Company: its History and its Vehicles

Press release

This comprehensive book covers the history of the Singer Motor Company and its products. It is intended to appeal not only to owners of Singer vehicles, but also to those interested in our exciting motoring heritage in general. Almost everything Singer is covered, from cycles and motorcycles through to cars, boats, tractors and commercial vehicles. These were manufactured between 1875, when George Singer established his company, and 1970 when Rootes, as one of its last acts, dropped the Singer name. Furthermore, the book details the life of George Singer himself, who created a brand that lasted almost a century. Lest it be forgotten that Singer vehicles fared extremely well in competition, many of their exploits and successes are also described.

The Singer Motor Company: its History and its Vehicles is the collective work of a number of knowledgeable Singer enthusiasts who have been able to infuse an extensive appreciation of the vehicles and their particular attributes. Of equal importance has been the inclusion of a good number of previously unpublished photographs, all of which contribute to make this a thorough and detailed history of the Singer Motor Company and its products.

The new book is hard-backed with a smart dust jacket and quality sewn binding; it is illustrated with numerous images and 394 pages in length. Annabel Levaux, one of our Vice-Presidents, and great-great-granddaughter of George Singer, has kindly written a dedication which appears in the opening pages.

Copies are priced at £40 and may be purchased through the Singer Motor Club, available at a discounted price of £36 until 30th June. It will also be available to buy direct from the club at the Beaulieu Spring Autojumble on 13-14th May.
