The Slough Estates Railway.

Book review by Michael E. Ware: "I was given this book for Christmas, though it's written as a railway book it's pure social and industrial history of Britain's first properly thought out trading estate, complete with operating railway to bring in and take out goods. The latter mostly steam operated with its own locomotives did not close till 1973. However, for the vehicle enthusiast the first chapter in particular is of great interest. During the Great War more and more mechanised transport was used. Much of it from British and American manufacturers, some having been requisitioned. Here are a couple of links of the only roadworthy RFC Crossley Tender. Shown on the L2B last year. My son and friend John Burgess accompanied me on the run which proved a super event with a few other WW1 military vehicles such as superb newly restored Dennis.

Interesting that the majority of vehicle illustrated are Crossleys, many with their distinctive twin rear wheels. I knew they made a lot, but seeing rows of them is most impressive. Very few survive but those that do are fine vehicles.
