To the hunt (UPDATE: not a Lambda, but a Chenard Walcker?)

Although presumably a black & white postcard, this one seems to have received some coloring at a later date. Funny to see that the boy cuddles the dog, not the girl. But it’s not just any dog. It’s a beautiful Borzoi, a Russian wolfhound that was originally bred for hunting. But here we deal with cars, not dogs. Click on the image and you’ll see the car. Like the dog it looks like something special too, could it be a Lancia Lambda? (postcard collection Hans Horwitz) (RB)

UPDATE V by Mike Tebbett: “No rear wheel brakes... so surely a Chenard-Walcker... the 3 litre or perhaps the 2 litre, both with Hallot brakes on the transmission and front wheels only...”
UPDATE IV by Frazer Sloan: “I think French too, Chenard Walcker, Delage, Bignan or something like that? With a very angular bonnet it has to have quite a square radiator at the front!”
UPDATE III from John Hearne: “Prior to colour photography many folk were employed in the business of 'colour tinting' black and white photographs [prior to printing in this case]. First off the wheels are most definitely original to the car. I agree that the car is most likely to be of French manufacture but, unfortunately there is not enough of the machine in the picture to identify it properly. I have a full set of beaded edge wheels complete with the splined hubs and earless caps which were originally fitted to a Peugeot type 175 circa early 1920's. The engine sump size suggests a reasonable size engine.”
UPDATE II by Michael Rose from New-Zealand who thinks the car is French: “A monocoque Lambda probably would not have a conventional chassis frame. The Marchal spotlight and earless Rudge wheel nuts on the 820x120 wheels, also add to Gallic good looks. Then there's the rear brakes. I read of a French braking system, I think it was known by the name Hallot. Application of the brake on the transmission shaft provided servo action to operate the front brakes. As for what marque used systeme Hallot and sported a gable-top radiator, je n'en sais quoi.”
UPDATE I by Wilfried Brunner from Switzerland: “I think this car is much earlier than a Lambda (begins 1923), from about 1912-1915/17 but upgraded. Where are the rear brakes? Lambdas have big Drums with 410 mm, this car has no Drums on rear. Rear suspension looks like 1/4 eliptic? The doors are too round for a Lambda, also the steering-Pitmanarm is much lower than on a Lambda. Looks like a ordinary chassis. I have seen such bodies on different cars like Hispano-Suiza chassis and others. I'm pretty sure that the wheels are newer than the rest of the Car, they are looking like Michelin-Bibendums from the twenties. “
