Trip spears headed for Rangoon! (upd. for oil drilling)

Some time ago Chuck Snyder mailed us several photos that came from the family of the original owner of the company he worked for: Spang and Company of Butler, Pennsylvania. Seen here is a truck loaded with trip spears about to be shipped to Rangoon, India. We must admit that we have no idea what 'trip spears' are as Google only returned Britney! Perhaps you can enlighten us. The photo dates from around 1917, who can tell the make of the truck?

Robbie is right concerning trip spears. Too bad he can't identify the truck. Although joking, Roger suggested Pierce Arrow. I had actually considered Pierce as a possibility, but upon closer examination decided against it.

Here's what I found on trip spears, they are used in oil drilling, same as the "weldless jars" that Spang and Company made.

Page 258 PETROLEUM MINING.
“There are many designs of "trip" casing spears which are provided with means of releasing should the casing not respond on the application of power.”…………
“Many of the American trip spears are designed for use on cable tools so that the jars can be used for freeing the casing.”
Bellow is the link to the book.

Seems a trip spear is an expanding tool designed to retrieve casing from oil well drilling, if the casing section is stuck the tool can be "tripped" so it can be retrieved and doesn't join the rest of the casing stuck in the hole, ( like a broken eezy-out invariably does)

Not sure about the truck, but isn't Rangoon (Yagnon) the former capital of Burma (Myanmar)?

Editor RB: Of course it is, we must try and dig out our old geography book from somewhere.
