Ugo Karpathen

Thomas Billicsich reports from a less known rallye for 'prewars only'. Event name 'KK Grenzlandfahrt' one week ago along the borders of Hungary, Ukraine and Rumania.
"... a 1600 km journey for 15 cars from Budapest to Bucaresti. The smallest car was a Bugatti Brescia with performed very well, the biggest was Mercedes SSK. Every car reached Bucaresti on its own power, we only had to do some minor repairs. Sometimes we had very bad roads with called for a slow pace, sometimes our police escort had to test their Ladas to stay ahead of our cars. Especially the railroad crossings needed walking speed to do no harm to car and driver. This journey was an very interesting one, we saw a lot, learned a lot and I think that prewarcars are a fit to make long distance travels. We started in Budapest and drove to Tokai the first day (250 km). On the second we drove into Ukrain to the L`viv or Lemberg of Austro-Hungaria (360km). A beautiful middle european town center with lots of interesting buildings. The next day we visted Czernowitz, a town with an similar history (260 km). On our fourth day we crossed the border into Romania. Here more horsecarts were bussy bringing the farmers to their fields an the fruits back to the villages, like here after the second World War. We visited famous monasteries.(219 km)Then we traveled the old german speaking country of Siebenbürgen an saw the town of Sighisoara (sighisoara.com) (Schäßburg) (282 km). Next day we crossed the Karpathian mountains for the third time and reached the plains of Bucaresti(197 km)."
Editor: now especially when you have not heard of any of these towns it is good to see that even in the remotest places peopel share our hoby. We welcome more stories of far away rallies and events. (photo & text Thomas Billicsich)
