Hi - I wonder if anyone is able to identify the rather unusual engine shown in the accompanying photos.
To me it looks like a 2 stroke, with stepped pistons (similar to a Dunelt motorcycle) and with a very primitive deflector.

Looks typical of an early marine engine, perhaps USA, perhaps 1905-1910 era ? Similar to a Waterman (Detroit) but those normally have copper water jackets. The crankcase is normally modular
