VINCENZO LANCIA AND THE BIRTH OF MODERN MOTORING

A DOCUMENTARY FILM ABOUT A VISIONARY MAN AND HIS EXTRAORDINARY MOTOR CAR

100 years ago, an Italian engineer changed the world of motoring forever.

That man was Vincenzo Lancia.

The car was the Lancia Lambda.

With its monocoque chassis, independent front suspension, narrow V-4 engine and four wheel braking, the Lambda was a technological tour de force ahead of its time.

Despite building one of the great Italian automotive dynasties, Vincenzo Lancia remains an enigmatic figure, his achievements less recognised and his masterpiece only appreciated by the cognoscenti.

Our documentary, for the first time, will tell this remarkable story with the full support of the Lancia family and the Lancia community on the centenary of his most extraordinary creation.

Across the Lancia Clubs, the Registers and the Consortium, we have an unmatched resource of international expertise, archive and vehicles that makes the achievement of producing a lasting celluloid testament to Lancia and the Lambda possible.

However, there is still a long way to go to the proposed film premiere at The Turin Film Festival at the end of the year. There’s European shooting, particularly in Italy, experts to be interviewed and archives to be searched if we are going to do justice to this story.

Consequently, we would be thrilled to hear from Pre-War Car readers with period archive photographs, footage or information that is relevant to the film. And, of course, if you would like to support us with funding, every contribution, no matter how small, helps us to achieve our goal so that we can make ‘Vincenzo Lancia and the Birth of Modern Motoring’a documentary worthy of the man and his landmark car.

This project really does demonstrate the resource, knowledge and passion held within our communities and what can be achieved when it is harnessed. Through such initiatives, we can help secure the legacies of these marvellous vehicles and ensure that they are appreciated now and in the future.
