Historic racing enthusiasts poured into Silverstone on the weekend of August 22-24th for the annual Silverstone Festival to enjoy the sights and sounds of some of the 20th century's greatest racing cars being raced hard, just as they were originally intended. Among sports, Grand Prix and saloon cars from the '50s onwards, a highlight of the meeting was the B.R.D.C. 500 race for pre-war sports cars, which was won by quite a clear margin by Patrick Blakeney-Edwards and Chris Ward in their 1927 Frazer Nash Super Sports.
The 'Nash was but one car on a packed grid which also included Alfa Romeo, Alta, Alvis, Aston Martin, Bentley, Delahaye, Invicta, Morgan, Riley, Talbot and Talbot-Lago, plus a Frazer Nash-BMW 328. Matthew Pitts was our man with a camera, and he's captured some of the excitement of the race for your viewing pleasure.
