VSCC - Pomeroy Trophy Media Instructions and Entry List

Press Release

VSCC - 65th Pomeroy Trophy - Silverstone Saturday 15th February.

One of the Club’s highlights of its sporting and social year, the “Pom” is rooted in motoring history, and seeks to identify the perfect touring car. A complex set of rules, which some claim to understand, means that vintage cars can compete alongside their modern counterparts on an equal footing. So equal, that it is nigh-on impossible to predict a winner. It could be a 1920s Vauxhall (which would be appropriate, given Mr Pomeroy’s association with that marque), a 1950s yank tank, a 1960s Mini Cooper S, a 1970s Ford Capri, or 1990s Porsche Boxster. Whatever claims victory, it will provide spectators with an unmissable day’s entertainment.

The Pomeroy Trophy - Cars to look out for:

CAR No 10
Peter Batty has entered in his green Volkswagen Polo. This car and driver should find the Pomeroy tests pretty simple compared to challenges it went through in 2019.  Peter, along with two friends, took part in the Mongol Rally, which saw them drive from Leicester to Mongolia. During the trip they covered 13,000 miles, passing through Europe and past the Black Sea into Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia and finally Mongolia. They completed this trip in the 21-year-old Polo raising over £3000 for their chosen charities.

CAR No 34
William Karslake has entered his stunning 1919 Hispano Suiza H6B Tourer. The rich history of this car can be dated back to the founder fathers of the VSCC and the formation of the Club in 1934. The beauty of the VSCC Pom’ is that we all get to see cars such as this gracing the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in competition.

CAR No 24
David Brazell’s 1964 Works Sunbeam Tiger competed in 1964 and 1965 International Rallies such as the Rally of Geneva, the Alpine Rally and the RAC Rally. It is the most successful Rally Tiger and its co-driver the late Ian Hall was a well-known VSCC member for many years and the father of Frazer Nash exponent Andrew Hall.

Entry is FREE to spectators.
The 'tests' start at 9.00am with the speed tests on the Grand Prix Circuit from 1.00pm.
