The above headline is taken from the New York Times, September 1909. Now we are supposed to tell you about an extremely entertaining booklet (6"x 9", 64 pages) that only recently came out. About three militaries who were selected for an army experiment to carry a 20 gram envelop in a two ton 35 HP Mitchel - model 1910 (!) - from the East to West coast of the US. We planned to tell you about the gruelling trip over horsetrails, footpaths from New York to Ashtabula to Ligonier to Dixon, Council Bluffs, North Platte, Julesburg, Dix (are you still with us? ) and then to Hanna, Wamsutter, Winnemucca and finally Frisco! Believe us it's a more then worthwile read. But most important, it finally made it to the press after so many years. The manuscript - put down on paper in 1940 by private Malcolm E.Parrott - almost got lost! The manuscript plus a wealth of photos of the trip was found by the father of the editor Stuart Mowbray, at an auto flea-market in the early seventies! The only thing further we want to give away about the trip is that halfway the gruelling 64 page trip you really sense, that you still are only halfway the journey... 'The First Transcontinental Military Dispatch Car' reads like a movie.
