We consider ourselves lucky to be living in the centre of Rotterdam as we have the Bavaria City Races right on our doorstep so to speak. Held this year for the fifth time, this event normally deals with all kinds of modern motor sports with an emphasis on Formula One. But this year we spotted something that really took our fancy. The Legends Cars Cup is a new, no nonsense formula that’s meant to keep a cost at a minimum, yet providing a maximum of fun. Close racing, full-lock drifting and slipstreaming are some of the buzzwords. The pre-war looking bodies are mounted on a modern tubular chassis and every car has the same Yamaha 1300 cc Blitz engine, coupled to a sequential 5-speed gearbox. Really back to basics and lovin’ it! Yet for the purists among us there was also the Dutch Vintage Sports Car Club putting some of their members finest on the grid.
Update by Stuart Penketh: "Strange looking cars indeed, but there must be a spark of love for the "Old Looking Cars", if they decide to clothe these chassis in pseudo look-alike garb. In 40/50 years time some youngster will find one in a barn somewhere, and say "Wow, this is a ... ", and lovingly restore it to it's present condition. I truly hope so!" (editor RB: we wholeheartedly agree!)
