What car is this young man driving?

This photo is taken in Matunuk, Rhode Island, USA around 1918. It originates from Chris's family album and he is hoping to identify the car. He has been looking online and in books for years trying to find a match, and has now reached out to us for help.

Chris told us that his Grandmother used to summer at Matunuk in her youth, around 1916. And that the car belonged to family friends, the Bliss Family, who owned multiple motorcars. He wrote, ”It is unfortunate that I inherited these images from my father and did not know of these images when my Grandmother was alive.” He has already managed to identify other PreWarCars in pictures from the family album. But this one…

Can anyone tell Chris what car we see the young man driving? And maybe tell him more about this specific model?

The radiator and cowling look like a Houpt-Rockwell. The front fenders and other details match the image on page 44 in The New Departure Classics by Chichester Percival Welden. Not surprising many wouldn't recognize, no known examples are known to have survived.

Very American car, with American body style and detachable rims. The combination of radiator shape with light round badge, segmented radiator core and fender shape with vizors at the front leads unmistakably to a ca 1910 Velie. Could be 1911 also, because of the presence of front doors. However the body and also the window frame do not seem to be the standard type, which is unusual on American cars, so there is some uncertainty.

I don't think it is a Studebaker (not flat on the top of the bonnet) or a Case (wrong shape of badge), but it might be an Overland.

It isnt Overland. General radiator shape is similar, but the Overland filler neck is oval with pull button latch on front. Overlands also have the crank handle extended to a front support across the dumb irons.

Not a Fiat I don’t think - the radiator badge is the wrong shape. It does look like a European car though but I’m not sure which make at the moment

I think it seems a 1913 tourer Stutz...
