What happened to the India Invicta?

What we know in the west about automotive history in India, in general is about dazzling vintage Rollses or other exceptional means of transport purpose built for the transport of Maharajas or tiger hunt. So different is this Invicta with registration GW7575 and country plate GB. The number plate may be British, certainly no such series existed in India. Take note that the surrounding buildings appear to be in India. Barbed wire around the drain pipe to discourage thieves from climbing up. Then the banana trees, they don't grow naturally in Britain. And finally the person sitting in the car can pass off for an Indian.
The photos were printed from a series of negatives recently found by our frequent contributor in India, Harit Trivedi. He further adds "There were two such Invicta's in India, one is still there in the Pranlal Bhogilal collection. (Pranlal Bhogilal who passed away in January last year, was founder of the Vintage Car Club of India). The second car - showing above - seems to have been exported. Maybe to Germany, maybe along with a Rolls-Royce, maybe even legally. Does anyone have a clue about the car?"

in a sense this car may have been very good to drive in India on rough roads. one in Australia is driven as a hill-climb car. such a lightweight car may also incur fewer punctures than larger cars,
road pot-hole can burst tyre tubes by impacts pinching on the wheel rim edge.

The plate GW 7575 is no longer recorded with DVLA. I have seen those headlamps fitted to several cars including a RLSS Alfa Romeo and once owned a pair myself. I think that these were fitted to a model of Rover. You may not be able to tell from the image but they are 'V' shaped at the front.

'GW' was a London registration- not very exciting, I know. The headlamps are unusual- probably French (Marchal?). Only 77 of these 'S' type Invictors were built: they has hypoid bevel drive and underslung frames, so although they were good for 90mph they suffered from hard suspension and poor ground clearance- not exactly suitable for 1930's India! Still, just as there are plenty of 200mph Ferrari's in Monarco and the British Channel Islands (speed limit 40mph everywhere) I dont suppose the Maharajas lost any sleep worrying about about being practical!
