What is it? Quiz # 429

It's a shortnosed four door tourer designed to provide the passengers a luxurious body with as much room as possible. So no engine at the front, but somewhere else. Built in England, I can tell you already now that it's not a Lanchester. The name of the make was an abbreviation of this new concept. Most cars were limousines and landaulettes built for town or even long distance use. As you can see they also built at least a few normal touring cars, in this case a fashionable torpedo. Up to you now to come up with name of the make and to tell where the engine has been hidden! Other details, especially if not readily available from the internet, may put you in advance, but take care not to use more than 100 words and don't forget to check the rules under read more.

N.E.C. cars were produced between 1905 and 1921 by the "New Engine Company Ltd", The company was owned by the brothers, J.G. and G.F. Mort. The first model of the NEC brand was launched in 1905. It was equipped with a two-stroke engine designed by G.F. Mort, and was located under the front seats of the driver and the nearby passenger and was quite advanced. Their models were equipped with 2- and 4-cylinder engines and would accommodate 6 to 8 persons sitting face to face. This is a 1911 30hp type.

P.S. In their adverts it stated “Our patented method of suspension combined with the position of the body within the axles and the correct distribution of the weight deserve your most serious consideration”, “Safety combined with Comfort”

Hi,
Could this be a 1919 ELMO electric car by British Electromobile Co. of London?
Hubs and wheels look much the same like the ones pictured at Georgano's. Underfloor (like now) batteries. Motor on rear axle.

It is a car from the New Engine Co (NEC or N.E.C.) from Willesden Junction. They made cars between 1905 to 1921. The engines were designed by G.F. Mort and mounted beneath the front seat. Most cars were built as town cars but it seems that one ran non-stop from London to Edinburgh in 1910.
