What is it? Quiz #489

A very interesting headlight. Has the car been in an accident or is it the way the manufacturer designed it? The history of the make is quite funny as the builder made cars from a particular country for the price of another country. But without any additional and luxurious parts. Well, we said enough. It is up to you to give us more information! Good luck!

This is a 1914 Briscoe Model B Deluxe Tourer. Benjamin Briscoe started building this four-cylinder 33 hp car that year. Before he had participated in building the Maxwell, failed with the United States Motor Company, went to France to form Briscoe Frères to build a cyclecar he exported to the US as the Argo. The Briscoe's single headlight was very distinctive, but unfortunately illegal in many US states. To supply some Briscoe cars with a paper-mache body was another of his unusual ideas, as was the offer to swap the four-cylinder engine with a V8 after a month of ownership.

Benjamin Briscoe - 'More than a million cars bore the mark of his genius. Then he built this, his life's masterpiece'.
This interesting car with its solo headlamp is a Briscoe. Built in Jackson, Michigan using a French design. It had a 2.5 litre 4 cylinder sidevalve engine. According to their 1917 advertisement 'Briscoe went to Paris and surrounded himself with fourteen of the most famous European engineers - and there welded together his own genius and the worlds best motor knowledge at a cost of half a million dollars'. Mostly forgotten today, Benjamin Briscoe was one of America's motor pioneers.
