Dear Editor.
What is this?
I have the attached lever devise from an old biplane. I was wondering what it is? - and which plane it is for?
The strampings read: A.D. 7115/1 Mk. 1 and company name: M.E. Ltd – dated 1930. Any info or clues would be of interest.

I would guess it’s a flap selector. One of the few instruments a prewar aircraft would have had that requires a series of pre-adjusted notches.

Very much depends on the size of the object. The Tiger Moth uses a similar quadrant for leading edge slats. In my experience it's probably too small to be a flap lever. These tend to be large levers because of the forces involved.

Perhaps made by Mollart Engineering Company Limited ("M.E. Co. Ltd.") established in 1929 by Arthur Mollart to make parts for aircraft at a factory on the Kingston by-pass, Surbiton, Surrey, England. This seems to be the only likely company using a circled “ME” logo/stamp and was listed in the Aeroplane Directory of the Aviation and Allied Industries of 1937, by when it specialised in patented precision ball joints for aircraft controls, as used by Vickers, De Havilland, etc. The company still exists in Chessington, Surrey and if this item does bear their “ME” stamp, they may have a record of what it was for...
