What make is this?

Could it be a Canadian built Locomobile? They were built in Canada for a few years. Quite often the cars built here had differences from their American counterpart.

You indeed see transverse front springs, but these support the rounded dumbirons. In the uploaded picture of a 1902 Grout the configuration is more clear (despite the poor quality of the image). Behind the transverse springs the steering system is visible, actuated by some rods and a classic trapezoid quadrangle.

I am sure I see a transverse leaf spring on the front axle. So the two shiny curved parts on both sides would not be dumb irons. Could they be steering arms? I would think the steering linkage is up high under the floor boards so this style of steering arm would be required. If so it would be a better engineered car of the time.

The plate number 2076 is very clear. Does Ontario have records from the early days that might include this number? Also, are there any experts with knowledge of early steam cars in Ontario who can do as Ariejan Bos suggests and look for makes in Ontario or just across the border in the US?

It is a steamer, that is a fact: the water gauge and the valve controls are clearly visible at the driver's side. However it is not a Locomobile, that is a fact too: the front springing system does not match. Although the basic pattern for steam buggies in these years was pretty much the same, a few parts were not. For the buggies the standard pattern was a transverse full-elliptic spring supported on a curved rod, with small deviations depending on the make. The mystery car has curved 'dumb-irons' on top of two half-elliptic springs. Steam cars with this type were e.g. Stearns and Grout. The steering lever normally is not an id feature, as you could often choose between the two options, central or side tiller steering. Two other features are interesting, the side rail at the back and the vent on the boiler side panel. Possibly the lid of the boiler compartment was used as luggage rack, hence the side rail and the side vent.
To be honest I don't dare to mention a make, as there are many steamer makes I have no images of. Both Grout and Stearns come close, but still I see too many differences.
In a mystery case like this I advise always to look first at makes in the neighbourhood, in Ontario itself or just across the border in the US. And even then it feels like searching for a needle in a haystack!
