Which De Dion-Bouton did Arend find? (Upd. mid 1920s type IW + Vermorel ! )

Arend Drenthe found this converted into an 'auto-tractor' car with a De Dion-Bouton engine in it. These conversions were popular in the 30-s to provide small farmers with a motorized help at little cost, as they could not afford a regular tractor.

So they used old 20-s cars and stripped, modified and often shortened the chassis for work in the field.

Arend likes to know what make and model and year this car originally was.  De Dion-Bouton engines were also used in Renault, Delage and Pierce Arrow.  He adds: "I am not sure if I am ever to rebuild it. Back to the car it once was, or maybe fixing it up in its current configuration with some more original parts may be the only option. The future will tell. Who can help identifying this agricultural De Dion and give some advise regarding the future of this tractor?"

Editor: your option to restore as a tractor seems the most feasible to us. Very few of these tractor conversions have survived.

What a surprise! I stood next to this vehicle last year and decided not to buy it. Maybe I will regret it since one doesn't get many opportunities like this: even in France the number of tractor-converted cars is decreasing, I guess. I would very much like it if you keep this tractor in its present configuration. Some day we will regret it that we don't have real examples anymore of the ingenuity of (French) farmers of the postwar period.
By the way: this vehicle not only contains De Dion-Bouton components, but also parts (back wheels if I remember correctly) from Vermorel. And who knows what else you may find while analyzing this machine.

I was born in 1953 as an only child, so I think that makes me 62 now. My father wore a suit and tie to his monument business(shared with brother), did not even own play clothes of any sort.
I had a nack, and an older cousin who seemed to be "magical" with mechanics, and with his T-Bird two seater, and H-D(and with girls.......).

After college adult ed(they were real good THEN), auto tune up, engine rebuilding, welding, auto body repair, refrigeration, few others, not for "work". I enjoyed all this, wanted to be a magician, bought books that fed my tool bin.

Arend, look at the finished product and value, how big is your smile? Then decide if you have storage space for a generation. Think about the purchase of some body making equipment, learn how to use them hands-on after someone teaches you bondo. (The tractor runs as is).

Engine and gearbox are from a de Dion Bouton IW, not the rear axle.

Over on this side of the pond we added another transmission to give a low low ratio and usually a truck rear for durability, but then we had more to chose from and use
