'Win on Sunday, sell on Monday'
(UPDATE: Mercedes AND Benz)

Whether this old saying still goes, we don’t know. But it certainly did way back when Christian Lautenschlager won the French Grand Prix in Dieppe, exactly 100 years ago. Daimler immediately produced this advertising poster showing Lautenschlager’s 120hp Mercedes. Its four-cylinder engine had a displacement of 12.4 litres and gave a top speed of 160 km/h. The instrument panel looks uncluttered, yet it demanded the full attention of the on-board mechanic. You will get a good chance to see this racing car in action, as it will be one of the highlights at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This Festival is one of the world’s biggest and most diverse classic motor sports events where many great competition cars and star drivers will be participating. The Goodwood Festival of Speed will be held on July 11-13. (photos courtesy Daimler AG) (RB)

Update: Hal Fillinger from the USA has sharp eyes as he noticed that we made an serious error in the photos. They are all from the rival 1908 Benz that also competed in the Dieppe GP.
