Zealand Girl

A photo that could have been a painting by Vermeer had he lived in that time. A young woman bying her groceries from a Model T truck, the headlamp interiors missing. The Zealand Girl is a typical Dutch icon. "Zeeuws Meisje" is not only a renowned brand of affordable quality Margarine. The Zealand Girl (click here to enlarge) is 'worldfamous' in the Netherlands for many virtues. Fresh, natural beauty of course and after tidyness and innocence there is this most important virtue to both the Dutch and Scots :-) she is pennywise. She never will spend one penny too much and was pictured on the Dutch Fl. 10 banknote of 1930 (Ronald Wise pages). An old Dutch saying says that there is no better investment than a housewife that doesn't spend... Close to the US saying: a penny saved is a penny earned.
